Safeguards Symposium. Every four years, the IAEA hosts the Symposium on International Safeguards at its headquarters in Vienna. The Symposium brings together key stakeholders from the IAEA, Member States, the nuclear industry, and members of the broader nuclear safeguards and non-proliferation community.

Nuclear materials: Accountability, management, safeguards [James E Lovett] on *FREE* shipping on qualifying offers. The IAEA holds a Symposium on International Safeguards every four years in order to engage the broader safeguards community in addressing challenges and seizing opportunities to strengthen the effectiveness of safeguards implementation.

The symposium’s theme is 'Building Future Safeguards Capabilities', and will look ahead to emerging technologies and innovative approaches with potential for strengthening and streamlining the implementation of safeguards. These agreements focus on nuclear material, so the important element of implementation of safeguards is nuclear material accountancy. In principle in IAEA safeguards, the use of nuclear material accountancy is the fundamental safeguards measure, with containment and surveillance as important complementary measures.

Purpose of the Handbook. The NuMat organizing committee is delighted to announce that the sixth meeting is now open for abstracts and will be held in Ghent, Belgium, from 26 – 30 October Following on from NuMat in Seattle USA, where over delegates presented their work, NuMat will focus on broad topics of interest to the nuclear materials community.

The safeguards symposium provides an opportunity for the IAEA and its Member States, the nuclear industry, and members of the broader nuclear non-proliferation community to jointly explore possible solutions to the various challenges of the future, in support of the IAEA’s nuclear.
